Total slots = physical positions in chassis (often 20 per standard rack).

Active = powered on and detected by control workstation.

Free = empty slot available for new device insertion.

Assigned = mapped to a project, account set, or test campaign.

Multi-rack labs: use rack serial from packing list + slot ID as global key.

Scale planning: add empty chassis or custom cabinet rows when free slots < 10% of target fleet.
